Lately, I’ve been working on background patterns for Little Teo to add more visual interest to his world. While the solid blue color has its charm, sometimes it can feel a bit plain. These new patterns provide an option that not only enhances the visuals but also helps reinforce Little Teo’s branding. Some might see it as just a background, but I believe it plays a much bigger role—it unifies the character and opens up exciting creative applications, like this phone wallpaper example. It’s subtle but subconsciously engaging.
For those unfamiliar, Little Teo is an emotional plush baby whale character, full of charm, adventure, and a big personality. His branding is centered around a soft, refreshing shade of sky blue, reminiscent of clear ocean waters on a bright day. It embodies his gentle yet vibrant nature, bringing a sense of calm and playfulness to his world.
I wanted this background pattern to reflect that energy while maintaining a connection to his oceanic world. Below is a breakdown of my design theory where each design element serves a purpose and tells a deeper story:
Circle Formation – The ripple-like motion suggests water, calm and flowing, mirroring Little Teo’s peaceful yet dynamic nature. Just like how ripples expand outward, his energy radiates in waves of curiosity and playfulness.
Diagonal Lines – These lines mimic the movement of a whale leaping above the water and diving deep below, capturing Little Teo’s adventurous and spirited personality. Whether he’s splashing around or finding comfort in the ocean’s depths, his journey is always in motion.
Wave Pattern – This subtle wave formation represents the ocean and, at the same time, takes on a soft, knitted texture. It connects the vastness of the sea with the cozy, plush quality of Little Teo’s world, adding warmth and depth to the design.
Together, these elements weave a visual story of Little Teo’s journey through a world full of emotions, exploration, and a sense of belonging in the vast ocean. Whether on wallpapers, packaging, or other creative applications, these patterns enrich his world and invite others to dive in and be part of his adventures.
